Check out the final draft of the "Town Center Smart Growth Plan"

in the "Project Materials" page

Whats Happening?

Plattsburgh is developing a plan to guide land development within the commercial center over the next decade. We want your input.

The Route 3 corridor including Smithfield Boulevard and much of Tom Miller Road and Military Turnpike have developed as traditional auto-oriented land uses catering to car traffic. New high-tech manufacturing at the former Clinton County Airport, growing housing demand and new investment represent an opportunity to transform our commercial area into a true Town Center. There is an opportunity to establish a walkable network of streets and a diverse mix of uses to create a sense of place- a Town Center.

The Town of Plattsburgh is utilizing a grant from the New York State Department of State to re-imagine these commercial corridors and chart a path for the future using Smart Growth principles; directing development to the area served by our current infrastructure and allowing greater density and diversity of uses.

Please read more about the project and check back for information on how you can participate.

What's your vision for the future of Plattsburgh?

Elevate Plattsburgh is funded by a grant from the New York State Department of State (NYSDOS) Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP). The LWRP funding is made available through Title 11 of the New York State Environmental Protection Fund (EPF).

The Town of Plattsburgh was designated as a Clean Energy Community in 2017 by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). This project is partially supported by an award from NYSERDA.

Guiding the project is the Project Advisory Committee. This volunteer group of residents, business & property owners, board members and town staff will identify goals, organize public engagement, review draft reports and develop a series of recommendations, policies and projects. The Town Board will also be actively engaged in the project.
